Does my Conveyancing Solicitor Need to be Local?

Here at Peter Robinson & Co. our clients often ask us whether they need to be local to take advantage of our services.

As we are based in Oldham, our local knowledge of the area could definitely prove useful to your sale, however a personal knowledge of the area is not specifically required and we can provide conveyancing services throughout England and Wales.

If you have appointed a solicitor who is not local to you then you shouldn’t worry too much about the lack of face-to-face contact. All solicitors have to go through the same legal process and often this can be done without leaving the office. It is perfectly normal for documents to be sent out to clients via post or email, or for your solicitor to contact you on the phone instead of calling you in for meetings at their office. In fact this is often a more convenient option for most people who live busy lifestyles and have restraining family and work commitments.

On the other hand, some people do feel more comfortable making an appointment and sitting in front of their lawyer to gain a better understanding of the process.

You should also be aware that the cheapest quote will not always mean the best service and local reputation does hold weight. You may want to consider asking neighbours or people in your locality for recommendations and if you do get a cheap quote, always ensure everything is included so you don’t get any unwanted surprises.

When buying or selling a property, your estate agent will probably be able to refer you to a local solicitor that they can recommend. This is very common and helps local businesses to build relationships with each other and with their clients.

Whether you are an Oldham local, or are located at the other end of the country, you can be sure that when you work with Peter Robinson & Co. you will benefit from our extensive knowledge, expertise and customer service. We specialise in all aspects of conveyancing, both commercial and residential, remortgages, transfer of equity, leases, landlord and tenants, business sales and purchases, home equity release schemes, Wills, probate and commissioners for oaths, so rest assured we will make the process a simple one.
